Jan Morris

Another cover for the literary supplement of the newspaper Il Piccolo, this time it’s the turn of the Welsh author Jan Morris, an extraordinary person and the author of an absolutely brilliant book on Trieste “Trieste and the meaning of nowhere”.

Jan Morris was born James Morris in 1926 and first visited Trieste at the end of WWII as an intelligence officer, then in 1953 became a household name as correspondent for the Times from the top of the world as part of the first expedition to conquer the summit of Mount Everest. Author of many important books since in 1972 decides to become a woman.

The bond with Trieste remained strong as she lived there for long periods across the years fascinated by its history and character. Her book on Trieste is highly recommended.
