Back on the Bumblebees. Right now I’m storyboarding/writing the same time the next bit of the story, and as the story takes shape you have to go back and change things.
This Scarecrow character got quite a bit of development both as design and as story, he’s now wearing a dungaree - and that is an actual story-driven change - and his arms now sport a lush feathering, mirroring actual birds’ anatomy.

Lil’bee doesn’t mess about. This scene is the first frame of the new page although it may end up cropped over the page. I just wanted to see it inked. To ink this one I used a Brause nib over a nice grainy paper.
Studying the crow
Earlier version of the scene with Lil’bee kicking. Only that after I finished inking it I thought that the composition was not drawing enough the eye onto the kick itself and so I made a new one. I do prefer some elements of this one over the other, like the way the crow seems to be falling backwards and his expression that lets us see into his beak, but considerations on composition always trump any other.
