Garibaldi

25th April is Liberation day, on this day Italy celebrates freedom from fascism so today I’m posting here General Giuseppe Garibaldi, the original freedom fighter and one of the most remarkable men to ever walk this earth. A commender of the navy of two countries, a general for three more, a member of 6 Parliaments, the most famous man of his time who with his own army conquered a state and gifted it to another achieving Italian unity. I think his record remains unmatched. In Italy he’s of course hugely celebrated but when at school you get to the chapter about him the history book puts the emphasis on the one time he obeyed an order from the king rather than the rest of his life when he acted according to his coscience.
